U3A Flinders is an independent organisation responsible for its own management, administration and programming. Speakers are recruited from the membership and outside volunteers.
In about 1988 Sr Deirdre Jordan, Life Patron of U3A Flinders and former Chancellor of Flinders University, raised the idea of committing resources to establish a University of the Third Age branch in the southern suburbs and planning began in earnest to enable this to proceed and coincide with the University's Silver Jubilee in 1991.
The foundation of U3A Flinders occurred on 18 September 1990 and the formal launch was held on 24 March 1991.
U3A Flinders acknowledges with gratitude the ongoing support from Flinders University of South Australia.
